JEE Advanced 2026 — Complete Guide for IIT Admission
JEE Advanced is the second stage of the Joint Entrance Examination and the sole gateway to admission in all 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). It is widely regarded as one of the most challenging undergraduate entrance examinations in the world, testing deep conceptual understanding of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Only the top 2,50,000 candidates from JEE Main 2026 are eligible to appear in JEE Advanced.

Eligibility Criteria
Step 1 — JEE Main Qualification
- Must be among the top 2,50,000 rank holders in JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech)
- Category-wise distribution of 2,50,000 seats: General (96,187), EWS (25,000), OBC-NCL (67,500), SC (35,000), ST (17,500), PwD (5% of each category)
Step 2 — Age Limit

Step 3 — Class 12 Appearance
- Must have appeared for Class 12 (or equivalent) for the first time in 2025 or 2026
- Candidates who passed Class 12 in 2024 or earlier are NOT eligible
Step 4 — Attempts
- Maximum 2 attempts in 2 consecutive years
- If you appeared in JEE Advanced 2025, you can still appear in JEE Advanced 2026 (2nd attempt)
Step 5 — Earlier admission to IIT
- Candidates who have previously been admitted to an IIT (even cancelled later) are NOT eligible, except under very specific conditions
