What is a HEIC file?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default since iOS 11. It keeps the same quality as JPG in a smaller file, but many websites, application forms and Windows apps cannot open it.

Why do exam and job portals reject my iPhone photo?

Most government and exam portals accept only JPG or PNG. A photo saved as .heic is rejected even when its size in KB is right, so convert it first, then resize it to the size the form asks for.

Can I stop my iPhone saving photos as HEIC?

Yes. Open Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose Most Compatible. New photos will be saved as JPG. Photos you already took stay HEIC, so convert those with this tool.
