WBCS 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

• Must be a Citizen of India (or such other nationals as declared eligible by the Government of India).
• Candidates from other States across India are eligible to apply under the General / Unreserved (UR) category, provided they possess the mandatory ability to read, write, and speak in Bengali (this condition is not mandatory for candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali).
• Reservation benefits (SC, ST, OBC-A, OBC-B, EWS, and PwBD relaxations) are strictly reserved for candidates who are permanent residents / domiciled in the State of West Bengal. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC of other States are treated as General candidates.
