HSSC CET Group D 2026 — What Advt. No. 05/2026 Actually Says

The Haryana Staff Selection Commission published CET (Common Eligibility Test) Advt. No. 05/2026 for Group D posts on 18 June 2026. Group D posts are not filled by a separate paper for each department. A single Common Eligibility Test is held, and the score is used for every Group D post in the state. This page summarises the advertisement as published on hssc.gov.in; where the advertisement is silent, it says so instead of guessing.

Status on 5 November 2026: the application window has closed and the exam date has not been announced in the advertisement ("will be communicated separately"). The number of Group D posts is also unpublished — Chapter 2.1 says post details will be published separately.

The commission also issued a public notice dated 3 July 2026 titled "Advt. No. 05/2026 (Group-D) Closing Date Extension" on the same advertisements page. The dates above are the ones printed in the original advertisement; if you applied close to the deadline, read the extension notice on hssc.gov.in for the revised closing, fee and correction dates.

Who Can Apply

Age. At least 18 years and not more than 42 years, both on the closing date of registration (Chapter 4.1). Relaxation for reserved categories is governed by the Haryana Government instruction dated 25 March 2022, reproduced in Appendix E of the advertisement.

Qualification. Matriculation from a recognised board, with Hindi or Sanskrit as one of the subjects up to Matriculation (Chapter 2.2). The posts of Sweeper, Chowkidar and Sweeper-cum-Chowkidar are the exception, where the minimum qualification is lower than Matriculation.

Reservation. The benefit of reservation is available only to residents of Haryana (Chapter 5.2). Supporting certificates carry issue-date conditions, for example BC-A, BC-B and EWS certificates must have been issued on or after 1 April 2026 and on or before the closing date.

Already applied for CET Group C? Chapter 7.1 says a candidate who applied earlier under CET Group C Advt. No. 1/2025 does not need to pay the fee again. Only fresh applicants pay as per category.

Exam Pattern

Total marks100
Duration1 hour 45 minutes
LanguageBilingual, English and Hindi
OptionsFour options per question, plus a fifth bubble for "not attempted"
LevelSecondary Education (Matriculation)
Qualifying marks50% General; 40% reserved categories (vertical and horizontal)

How the marking works

This is the unusual part of HSSC's scheme and the place candidates lose marks. A wrong option carries no negative marking. But the OMR sheet has a fifth circle for candidates who do not wish to attempt a question. If you leave a question blank and do not fill that fifth circle, one mark is deducted — in the commission's words, every unattempted question carries negative marking of minus one mark. In practice the safe approach is to fill an option or the fifth bubble for every one of the 100 questions.

Marks of the 2024 candidates

The advertisement notes that candidates who qualified the Group D CET held on 12 January 2024 — a score valid up to 11 January 2027 — and who qualify in future, have their earlier marks (out of a maximum of 95) converted into a percentage for the combined merit list of CET-qualified candidates.

Syllabus (Appendix D)

The advertisement divides the paper into two parts by weightage.

Part A — 75% weightage

  • General Awareness: India and neighbouring countries — history, polity and constitution, art and culture, geography; general science covering physics, chemistry and biology.
  • Reasoning: alphabetical order, series, coding-decoding, direction and distance, order and ranking, blood relations, analogy, classification, clock, calendar, mirror and water image, syllogism, sitting arrangement, missing characters, statement-assumption and statement-conclusion, counting figures, non-verbal series.
  • Quantitative Ability: number system, simplification, decimals and fractions, LCM and HCF, ratio, percentage, roots, average, profit and loss, discount, simple and compound interest, mensuration, partnership, mixture and allegation, time and work, time and distance, trigonometry, basic algebra and geometry.
  • English: grammar, spot the error, fill in the blanks, synonyms and antonyms, spellings, idioms and phrases, sentence improvement, active and passive voice, direct and indirect speech, sentence shuffling, tenses.
  • Hindi: varna, swar, vyanjan, shabd, sangya, sarvanam, visheshan, kriya, vachan, ling, karak, kaal, tadbhav-tatsam, alankar, vikari and avikari shabd, pad, padbandh, muhavare and lokoktiyan, sandhi, upsarg, pratyay, samas, paryayvachi, vilom, anekarthi, vakya shuddhi, viramchinh, ek shabd.

Part B — 25% weightage: Haryana — history, literature, geography, economy, civics, polity, environment, art, culture, customs, society, and current affairs and events of the state.

A quarter of the paper is therefore Haryana-specific. For many candidates from outside the state this is the section that decides the score, so it deserves its own preparation time instead of being treated as general knowledge.

Selection Process

  1. CET written test (100 marks, as above).
  2. Merit list prepared on CET marks alone. For Group D the CET score is 100% of the selection basis; the advertisement mentions no interview or second-stage test.
  3. Posts advertised separately, after which eligible candidates give an electronic willingness for the posts.
  4. Recommendation of names to the departments by the commission.

Fee

The advertisement does not print rupee amounts in the Chapter 7.1 text. It points to the CET policy of the Haryana Government (31 December 2024, reproduced in the advertisement), under which the fee is a share of a Standard Rate that the policy fixes at Rs. 1,000 "or as fixed by Government from time to time". The share depends on residence and category:

ApplicantHaryana resident with PP number / AadhaarHaryana resident withoutNon-resident with AadhaarNon-resident without
Male, general category50%100%50%100%
Female (general or reserved)25%50%50%100%
Ex-servicemen25%50%50%100%
Persons with disabilities25%50%50%100%
SC, Backward Class, EWS25%50%50%100%

The fee payable for this particular advertisement depends on the Standard Rate in force, so confirm the exact amount on the application portal. Fee once paid is not refundable. Answer-key objections after the exam carry a separate fee of Rs. 250 per objection, which is non-refundable.

How Long Do CET Marks Last?

CET marks stay valid for three years from the date the result is declared. A candidate who improves the marks in a later attempt gets a fresh three-year validity from the new result. This matters because the same CET score can be used for more than one recruitment advertisement within that period.

Where This Fits Among HSSC Exams

CET is the gateway used by HSSC for both Group C and Group D posts, with a separate paper for each group. If you are also preparing for the commission's police recruitment, see our Haryana Police Constable 2026 guide, and for the senior state service see HPSC HCS 2026. Browse other Haryana state exams for the wider list.

What to Do Next

  • Read the full advertisement and any extension notice on hssc.gov.in.
  • Watch the commission's notice board for the exam date and admit card announcement; the date is not fixed in the advertisement.
  • Use the Appendix D topic list above as your checklist, and give Haryana-specific topics (Part B) a dedicated block of preparation.
  • Practise filling OMR sheets in a timed set, including the fifth bubble habit, since an unattempted question costs a mark.
