4. Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification & Experience

  • For CPWD & CWC: Diploma or Degree in Civil/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering. No experience required.
  • For MES & BRO: Degree in the relevant engineering branch (No experience) OR Diploma in the relevant branch WITH 2 years of professional working experience.

Age Limit (As on August 1, 2026)

  • Maximum 32 Years: For CPWD (Central Public Works Department) and CWC (Central Water Commission).
  • Maximum 30 Years: For all other departments including MES, BRO, NTRO, etc.
  • Age Relaxation: OBC (NCL): +3 Years | SC/ST: +5 Years | PwBD: +10 Years.

5. SSC JE Exam Pattern & Syllabus

SSC JE is conducted in two phases, both being Computer Based Tests (CBT). There is no interview.

Promotion: JE → Assistant Engineer (AE) → Executive Engineer (EE) → Superintending Engineer (SE). CPWD offers the fastest promotion track.

7. How to Apply for SSC JE 2026

  1. Complete your One-Time Registration (OTR) at ssc.gov.in.
  2. Log in and navigate to the "Apply" section. Click on Junior Engineer Examination 2026.
  3. Fill in the application details carefully, ensuring you select the correct Engineering Stream (Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical).
  4. Select your preferred Examination Centres.
  5. Upload recent Photograph and Signature.
  6. Pay the fee: ₹100 for General/OBC/EWS males. (Women, SC, ST, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen are exempt).
  7. Submit the form and save the confirmation PDF.

8. Preparation Strategy

  • Non-Tech is the Dealbreaker: Many engineers have strong technical basics but fail to clear Paper-I because they score poorly in the 100-mark Non-Tech section (Reasoning + GK). Dedicate daily time to Current Affairs and Reasoning practice.
  • Paper-II Shift: Because Paper-II is now Objective (MCQ), numerical solving speed and formula memorization are more critical than long-form derivations.
