3. Comprehensive Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualifications

Candidates can qualify under either of the following degree structures:

• Master's Degree Route:
  • General / Unreserved / General-EWS candidates must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from UGC-recognized universities/institutions.
  • OBC (NCL) / SC / ST / PwD / Third Gender candidates must have secured at least 50% marks.
  • Candidates currently pursuing their Master's degree or awaiting results may apply provisionally.
• Four-Year / Eight-Semester Bachelor's Degree Route:
  • Candidates enrolled in or having completed a 4-year/8-semester bachelor's degree program with at least 75% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) are eligible.
  • A relaxation of 5% (to 70%) applies to SC, ST, OBC (NCL), PwD, and EWS candidates.
  • Note: Four-year bachelor's degree holders are eligible ONLY for JRF and admission to Ph.D.; they are not eligible for Assistant Professor.

Age Limit Policy

• For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): Maximum 30 years as on the 1st day of the month in which the exam concludes. Up to 5 years relaxation is granted to OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, Third Gender, and Women candidates (up to 35 years). Additional relaxation applies to candidates with research experience or LL.M. degrees as per NTA guidelines.
• For Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit.
• For Admission to Ph.D. Only: There is no upper age limit.

4. UGC NET Examination Pattern & Marking Scheme

The UGC NET examination is administered entirely as an online Computer-Based Test (CBT). Both papers are conducted in a single uninterrupted 3-hour session (180 minutes).

Candidates can access their UGC NET June 2026 scorecard by following these steps:

3. Enter your Application Number, Date of Birth, and the security PIN displayed on screen.
